Masterpiece

This is an award winning (well, not really, but still) book by Elise Broach. Marvin, the beetle, lives under the kitchen sink in Jame's house. For his birthday, James gets an ink set. Marvin sneaks on to his desk and draws an amazing view of the scene outside the window. Skipping some plot, Marvin is soon caught up in an art heist. Will this creature survive?

Swindle

You've probably already read this book or any book by Gordan Korman, but this is definitely a good one. Griffin is camping out at a abandoned building that is to be demolished in the morning, and he finds a desk with a false bottom. It's small, just big enough for a Babe Ruth baseball card to fit in. Griffin does not know a lot about baseball cards, only enough to know that this might pull his family out of debt. So he takes the card to S. Wendell (swindle) Palomino and sells it for a grand total of $100. But as you should know, never sell a valuable baseball card to someone who's name sounds like swindle!!!

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Hugo is an orphan. He takes care of the clocks and ... steals toys for their parts. He is repairing an automaton, a machine that draws a picture, a picture confined to the clockworks of the machines. Brian Selznick outdoes himself in the longest book he's written.

Scat

Scat by Carl Hiiasen is truly a award winning book by my standards. A teacher gets "lost" in Blackvine Swamp and takes a day off for the first time in 20 years. A plot is being started when an oil company drills in a protected area. What happens next? And more importantly, why is the book called Scat!

Regarding the Fountain

Written by Kate and Sarah Klise, this is an excellent book. The Geyser Creek Middle School water fountain is leaky. So,Walter (Wally) Russ, the principal contacts fountain desighner Florence Waters to fix the fountain. Waters, a world class fountain creator thinks the fountain should be a work of art. Will the fountain be repaired? Read the book to find out.

The Lemonade War

This book by Jacqueline Davies is amazing!!! Let's just say that inside its cover it includes: 2 kids who make over $200- just by way of lemonade stand. It also includes 2 daring thefts of that money. The sequel is just as enticing. By the same author, The Lemonade Crime puts the thief on trial.

Crunch

By Leslie Connors, this book takes place in the future. However, it is a future without oil. The mom and dad of the main character are stranded on the road with no fuel. What happens to the children at home? Will mom and dad come home? When will I stop asking questions like this? Read the book to find out.
